The type of therapy I practice is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, a modern approach to hypnotherapy that incorporates several well-established psychotherapy techniques along with the very best of neuroscience research and hypnosis. In our sessions we use a variety of different techniques that have been proven time and time again to be highly effective in bringing about positive and sustained change. We focus on helping the client move forward rather than looking back to traumatic events from their past. So If you have experienced unpleasant events, we acknowledge they happened and help you get from where you are to where you want to be.
The very foundation of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is based on an understanding of neuroscience and how the brain reacts to the environment or to circumstance.
One of the key elements of this kind of therapy is the use of the immensely powerful and completely natural state of hypnosis which reaches the subconscious to promote change in a profoundly relaxing and effective way.
Every day we think between 60 -70,000 thoughts, and according to neuroscience research, 95% of those thoughts are the same ones that we had yesterday. What’s more, many of these thoughts are negative, untrue and unhelpful to us. So until we can change the way we think about things, nothing will change in our lives. Clinical Hypnotherapy enables you to change old, unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaving and to replace them with new ones, allowing you to make positive, lasting changes in your life.
The initial consultation is one of the most important, and sometimes most enlightening stages of the hypnotherapy process. During this session, I take the time to get to know you as a new client and to form a clearer understanding of your needs and goals. Then, using evidence-based neuroscience, I’ll then explain to you a little about how the brain works in relation to your issues, and why we feel the way we do. I explain the various parts of the brain and their various responsibilities including emotions, memory and decision-making. I will then show you how solution focused hypnotherapy can help you to make positive changes in your life. I should also be able to tell you approximately how many sessions you may possibly need, although this can vary greatly from person to person. During the initial consultation there is no hypnosis. We start this in Session 1.
You can then decide if you would like to go ahead with therapy and we can make your first appointment.
Each weekly session after that involves much more than hypnosis. The first part of each session involves talking therapy where we focus on what has been good and on getting your mind into a positive state. Then we look at what you would like to achieve and how that would feel and what you’d be noticing and what small steps you could take towards this wonderful goal. Then together, we guide you into a relaxed state of Hypnosis so that we can consolidate what we have discussed, allowing your subconscious mind to come up with the solutions that are just right for you.
You are always in control.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy does not involve analysing painful memories from the past. If you have experienced unpleasant events, we acknowledge they happened and help you get from where you are to where you want to be.
Hypnotherapy is a collaborative process between the therapist and the client. Ultimately change happens because you want it to and you are prepared to take the necessary steps to make it to happen. I will work with you every step of the way to help you to decide on and achieve those changes.

Actually, we all experience the Hypnotic state in our everyday lives.
Have you ever driven home and not remembered anything about the journey, or been engrossed in a book and not been conscious of time passing? If so, you’ve been in a state of focused attention, not unlike the feeling of being hypnotised.
During Clinical Hypnosis you will be guided into a similar state so that beneficial suggestions can be directed towards your subconscious mind.
Most clients emerge from hypnosis feeling relaxed, refreshed and positive.
Hypnosis is simply a state of relaxed, focused attention. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to suggestion. In a clinical, therapeutic setting, the suggestions are designed to be beneficial to help you change unhelpful thought patterns.
The state of Clinical Hypnosis is quite “ordinary”– it’s not unlike daydreaming – you can often hear everything that is being said whilst in a deeply relaxed state.
You are always in control.
Hypnosis in the past has certainly been portrayed in some sensational ways, in the interests of entertainment. Unlike some of the images seen in films, books and the media, modern Clinical Hypnosis does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind.
You can rest assured that nobody can make you do anything you do not want to – your subconscious mind will simply reject any suggestion that is inappropriate for you.
